Visit The Famous Gibraltar Monkeys
Gibraltar Monkeys & Skywalk
The Barbary Macaques are the only wild monkeys to be found within the continent of Europe. They reside at the Upper Rock Nature Reserve of Gibraltar, at the Ape's Den. At present there are over 200 monkeys in 6 packs that roam through the Upper Rock. During our tours we visit them at the Top of the Rock!

Legend has it that in 1942 the population of apes fell to just 7 and the Prime Minister of Great Britain (Sir Winston Churchill) ordered that the population of the apes be immediately replenished because as long as there are Barbary Macaques Apes on the Rock of Gibraltar it will remain under British rule.
The wild Barbary macaques of Gibraltar are one of the territory’s most famous and fascinating attractions, but it is important to stay safe and respectful when near them. Visitors should always keep a safe distance, avoid direct eye contact, keep bags securely closed, and pay attention to any warning signs from the monkeys, such as sudden movements or vocal sounds. Our professional tour guides have years of experience ensuring that interactions with the macaques are safe, enjoyable, and provide fantastic photo opportunities without disturbing them.
The macaques (or rock apes as referred to locally) live in close-knit family groups that groom and care for one another. Their name, “Barbary macaque,” comes from the Barbary Coast of North Africa, where their ancestors originated. With the right guidance and respect, observing them in their natural habitat can be an unforgettable, unique experience.
Gibraltar Skywalk Glass Viewing Platform

Near to the Ape's Den, standing 340m directly above sea level, the Gibraltar Skywalk offers breath-taking 360º views spanning 3 countries and 2 continents. This is a fantastic place for photos from the Top of the Rock to admire the incredible views. If you're feeling brave you can walk on the glass viewing platform which is strong enough to hold 5 elephants!

Mark Hamill (who plays iconic character Luke Skywalker in Star Wars) officially opened The Skywalk in 2018 which was a special day in Gibraltar!
