The Pillars of Hercules

Our journey begins at the dramatic Pillars of Hercules, where the Rock of Gibraltar rises above the entrance to the Mediterranean.

From this spectacular viewpoint, you’ll enjoy panoramic views across the Strait of Gibraltar towards the coast of North Africa, with Morocco visible on clear days. You’ll also see where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean and appreciate Gibraltar’s extraordinary position at the gateway between two continents.

St Michael's Cave

Next, we venture into the spectacular St Michael’s Cave, one of Gibraltar’s most remarkable natural attractions.

Formed over millions of years as rainwater gradually filtered through the limestone, the cave has created an extraordinary world of stalactites, stalagmites and dramatic rock formations.

The cave’s natural beauty has been enhanced by The Awakening, an immersive light and sound experience that brings the cavern to life. The combination of ancient rock formations, atmospheric lighting and sound creates a truly memorable experience unlike anything else on the Rock.

O'Hara's Battery (Highest Point)

We then continue upwards to O’Hara’s Battery, situated at approximately 1,383 feet above sea level at the highest point of the Rock of Gibraltar.

Built in 1890 on the site of a former watchtower known as O’Hara’s Folly, the battery formed an important part of Gibraltar’s coastal defences. Its enormous 9.2-inch gun was installed in 1901 and remained part of Gibraltar’s military history for decades.

Today, the location provides one of the most impressive viewpoints anywhere on the Rock, with breathtaking panoramas stretching across the Mediterranean, Strait of Gibraltar and surrounding coastline.

Top of the Rock with Skywalk Glass Viewing Platform & Monkeys

From O’Hara’s Battery, we continue to the Top of the Rock for two of Gibraltar’s most famous experiences — the Skywalk and the Barbary macaques.

The Skywalk provides a spectacular glass viewing platform suspended high above the Rock, offering uninterrupted 360º views across the Mediterranean, North Africa, Spain and Gibraltar itself. Standing on the glass platform with the landscape falling away beneath you is an exhilarating experience and one of the tour’s unforgettable highlights.

We’ll then spend time with Gibraltar’s famous Barbary macaques at the Upper Rock Nature Reserve. These wild monkeys are Gibraltar’s most iconic residents and the only wild population of macaques found in Europe.

There are currently more than 200 macaques living across the Upper Rock in several family groups. You’ll have the opportunity to see them at close quarters while your guide explains their behaviour, history and importance to Gibraltar.

During World War II, the macaque population reportedly fell dramatically, prompting Churchill to insist that their numbers be replenished - helping create the enduring legend that Gibraltar will remain British for as long as the monkeys remain on the Rock.

Windsor Suspension Bridge

We’ll also visit the impressive Windsor Suspension Bridge, spanning a dramatic gorge high above the Upper Rock.

The bridge provides fantastic views across Gibraltar, the Strait of Gibraltar, Bay of Gibraltar and the city below. A fantastic stop for a special photo opportunity!

The Great Siege Tunnels

We then travel into Gibraltar’s extraordinary military past at the Great Siege Tunnels.

Carved by hand through the limestone during the Great Siege of Gibraltar between 1779 and 1783, the tunnels were created by British soldiers to establish defensive positions inside the Rock.

As you walk through these remarkable passages, you’ll discover how Gibraltar was defended during one of the longest sieges in British military history and gain a fascinating insight into the determination and ingenuity of the soldiers who carved them.

City Under Siege Exhibition

Our historical journey continues at the City Under Siege Exhibition.

One of the most fascinating features here is the graffiti preserved on the walls, with some examples dating back to the 18th century. These personal marks provide a rare glimpse into the everyday lives of the soldiers who occupied Gibraltar centuries ago.

It’s an atmospheric and surprisingly personal connection to Gibraltar’s military past.

World War II Tunnels

We then explore Gibraltar’s incredible World War II tunnel network - a vast underground complex built to transform the Rock into a fortress capable of supporting thousands of people during wartime.

When Britain entered the war in 1939, Gibraltar’s strategic position made it a potential target for the Axis powers. In response, an enormous network of tunnels was excavated inside the Rock.

The result was effectively a city beneath the city, containing hospitals, communications facilities, storage areas, accommodation and other essential infrastructure.

Walking through these tunnels provides a fascinating insight into Gibraltar during World War II, revealing not only the extraordinary military preparations made inside the Rock, but also the profound impact the war had on Gibraltar’s civilian population. Learn how thousands of Gibraltarians were evacuated from their homeland, how the Rock was transformed into a heavily fortified military base, and how soldiers and civilians lived and worked within this vast underground network. It is a powerful glimpse into a defining period of Gibraltar’s history and the remarkable resilience of its people.

Moorish Castle

We’ll then stop at the newly refurbished Moorish Castle, one of Gibraltar’s most recognisable historic landmarks.

Originally established during the Moorish occupation, the complex reflects Gibraltar’s long and turbulent history between Europe and North Africa. Its imposing Tower of Homage remains a striking reminder of the different civilisations that have controlled the Rock over the centuries.

Shopping + Lunch

You’ll have approximately 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes, depending on the pace of the tour, to enjoy lunch, explore the atmospheric streets of the Old Town or browse the shops around Main Street and Casemates Square.

This is your time to relax, enjoy Gibraltar at your own pace and perhaps pick up a few souvenirs before we continue with the afternoon’s sightseeing.

100 Ton Gun

Our next stop is the enormous 100 Ton Gun, one of Gibraltar’s most impressive military relics.

Built in the late 19th century, these enormous coastal guns were designed to defend Britain’s strategic naval bases. Four were constructed — two for Gibraltar and two for Malta.

The Gibraltar gun is a remarkable reminder of the scale of the artillery once used to protect the Rock and its vital position at the entrance to the Mediterranean.

Europa Point

We then continue to Europa Point, the southernmost point of Gibraltar. From here, you can look across the Strait towards North Africa, with spectacular views extending towards Morocco on clear days. You’ll also have views across the Bay of Gibraltar and towards the Spanish coastline.

With the lighthouse standing at the edge of the continent, Europa Point is one of Gibraltar’s most dramatic locations and an essential stop on the Ultimate Tour.

360º Drive Around Gibraltar's Coastline (Catalan Bay)

We’ll then take a scenic drive around Gibraltar, following the coastline and taking in the Rock from different perspectives.

Along the way, we’ll pass areas including Catalan Bay, with its colourful waterfront and distinctive character, as well as Gibraltar’s eastern coastline, historic water catchments and unique geological features.

This panoramic drive gives you the opportunity to see a side of Gibraltar that many visitors miss when concentrating solely on the main attractions.

Airport Runway

To complete our Gibraltar experience, we’ll drive through the Kingsway Tunnel beneath Gibraltar Airport and continue towards the Spanish border, just metres from Spain.

The airport runway is one of Gibraltar’s most unusual features, crossing directly between the town and the border. You can even experience the unique opportunity of walking across the runway itself! 

After seven hours exploring Gibraltar’s history, wildlife, military heritage, spectacular landscapes and unique attractions, we’ll return you to your original destination or another location of your choice within Gibraltar.
