Gibraltar Tours - The Pillars of Hercules

From here, you can look across the Strait towards the coast of Morocco and North Africa, while taking in the meeting point of the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. The viewpoint also offers impressive views towards Europa Point, Gibraltar’s southernmost point and the southern tip of Europe.

St Michael's Cave

We then head into the Rock to explore the remarkable St. Michael’s Cave, a natural limestone cavern shaped over millions of years by water slowly passing through the Rock.

St Michael's Cave - Gibraltar Tours

The cave has been transformed by The Awakening, an immersive light and sound experience introduced in 2021. The carefully designed lighting brings the dramatic formations and vast cavern to life, creating a completely different way to experience one of Gibraltar’s most famous natural attractions.

Top of the Rock, Skywalk & Monkeys

Next, we make our way to the Upper Rock for some of Gibraltar’s most memorable views and its most famous residents.

Gibraltar Skywalk - Gibraltar Tours

The Skywalk provides an unforgettable 360° viewpoint from high above Gibraltar, with the Mediterranean, Strait of Gibraltar, North Africa and surrounding coastline stretching out below you. The glass platform was created from a former military lookout and offers a unique perspective from the top of the Rock.

Gibraltar Tour - Monkeys

We will also visit the Barbary macaques at Upper Apes' Den which is a short walk from the Skywalk, where you can see Gibraltar’s famous wild monkeys in their natural surroundings.

Gibraltar Macaque Monkeys - Gibraltar Tour

Gibraltar’s macaques are the only wild monkeys found in Europe, and more than 200 are now found across the Upper Rock. Their presence has become an inseparable part of Gibraltar’s identity, with the famous Churchill story adding another fascinating chapter to their history. Legend has it that when their numbers fell dramatically during World War II, Sir Winston Churchill insisted that the population be replenished, believing their presence on the Rock was closely connected with Gibraltar remaining British.

The Great Siege Tunnels

The tour then takes a turn beneath the Rock as we visit the extraordinary Great Siege Tunnels.

Gibraltar Tunnels Tour - Great Siege Tunnels Tour

Created during the Great Siege of Gibraltar between 1779 and 1783, the tunnels were painstakingly excavated by hand through the limestone by British troops. They formed an important part of Gibraltar’s defensive system during the attempt by Spanish and French forces to recapture the Rock.

Inside, you can see how the defenders used the tunnels to establish artillery positions and create a remarkable network of passages deep inside the Rock. It is one of the best places in Gibraltar to understand the extraordinary lengths taken to defend the fortress.

World War II Tunnels

We continue underground into Gibraltar’s vast World War II tunnel network.

During the Second World War, Gibraltar became a vital military base and Britain feared an attack on the Rock. The response was the creation of an enormous underground complex designed to support thousands of military personnel and civilians.

World War 2 Tunnels Gibraltar

The result was effectively a fortress beneath the fortress, complete with facilities needed to keep Gibraltar operating during wartime. Walking through these tunnels provides an insight into the lives of those who worked and lived inside the Rock during one of the most challenging periods in Gibraltar’s history.

The tunnels also connect Gibraltar to the stories of important wartime figures including Winston Churchill, Polish leader Władysław Sikorski and French leader Charles de Gaulle.

Moorish Castle and Old Town of Gibraltar

As we leave the Upper Rock Nature Reserve, we will drive past the Moorish Castle and see the impressive remains of this medieval fortification.

Gibraltar Tours The Moorish Castle

The Moorish Castle dates back to the Moorish period of Gibraltar’s history, with the Tower of Homage forming its most recognisable feature. The walls still bear evidence of Gibraltar’s turbulent past, including marks left by artillery fire during centuries of conflict.

We will then continue through Gibraltar’s old town, giving you the opportunity to see more of the historic streets and buildings as we make our way down from the Rock.

The tour can finish wherever is most convenient for you in Gibraltar. If you would like to explore the town and Main Street afterwards, we can also provide a map and recommendations for the best places to visit in the pedestrianised area, along with guidance on how to return to your accommodation or meeting point.
