Gibraltar Tours - O'Hara's Battery
O'Hara's Battery
Highest Point of the Rock 1383ft
O'Hara's Battery, Gibraltar
Gibraltar Tours
O'Hara's Battery is located at the highest point of the Rock of Gibraltar at 1383ft, near the southern end of the Upper Rock Nature Reserve, in close proximity to Lord Airey's Battery. It was constructed in 1890 at the former site of a watchtower that had earned the name O'Hara's Folly.
The battery and tower were both named after the Governor of Gibraltar Charles O'Hara. The first gun mounted on the battery was a 6 inch breech loading gun, which was replaced with a 9.2 inch Mark X BL gun in 1901. The battery was in use during World War II and was last fired during training exercises in 1976. O'Hara's Battery has been recently refurbished and is open to the public.

Gibraltar World War 2 Tunnels
Experience The World War II Tunnels
a fortress inside a fortress, a city within a city
World War II Tunnels, Gibraltar
Gibraltar Tours
The World War II Tunnels were built by the Royal Engineers in preparation of war during the 1940’s when Britain was at war with Germany and Italy, as the future looked bleak for Gibraltar as the enemy surrounded it and an attack was highly probable.
Winston Churchill and the British military leaders believed that an attack on Gibraltar was imminent therefore the answer was to construct a massive network of tunnels, to build a fortress inside a fortress, a city within a city.
Follow in the Footsteps of Churchill...
In May 2005 the World War II Tunnels were opened to the general public and now you too can follow in the footsteps of Churchill, Sikorski and De Gaulle and walk through this amazing testament to the soldiers and civilians who toiled in the very bowels of the Rock during the darkest days of the War.
After recent upgrades for a new, modern exhibition, visitors can now see a remarkable artifact: a Submarine Spitfire!
Named after Supermarine Aviation Works where it was developed, the Spitfire was much loved by its pilots and operated in several roles, including interceptor, photo-reconnaissance and fighter-bomber.
The plane was part of a strategic effort to provide air support to the Mediterranean during the war. Today, it remains on display in the tunnels, showcasing both the ingenuity and resourcefulness of wartime engineering.

Gibraltar Tours - City Under Siege
Explore The City Under Siege Expedition
Dating back to the 18th Century
City Under Siege, Gibraltar
Gibraltar Tours
City under Siege Exhibition – The buildings in which this exhibition is housed are probably one of the first buildings ever constructed by the British in Gibraltar hence dating back to the beginning of the 18th Century.
Undoubtedly the most important aspect of these building is the graffiti that are seen on the walls which were made by soldiers mounting guard in the area who used to spend their time drawing on walls in order for them not falling asleep during the long hours of duty as a offence there punishment was death back on those days.
The Great Siege of Gibraltar started on the 24th June 1779 and lasted 3 years.
During this time the Spanish fleet blockaded Gibraltar, and it was only thanks to relief convoys that broke through that Gibraltar survived. With strict rationing and lack of supplies, many of the people and armed forces suffered greatly during this time, including a violent outbreak of scurvy amongst the defenders.
The siege was finally lifted on the 7th of February 1783 and resulted in a decisive victory for the British against overwhelming odds. The siege was also a factor in ending the American Revolutionary War.

About Us - Carl Mesilio's Inside-Out Rock Tours

Inside-Out Rock Tours
By Carl Mesilio
Hello! My name is Carl and I'm the owner of Inside-Out Rock Tours! I'm 100% Gibraltarian, born and raised in Gibraltar. I am bilingual in English and Spanish.
I have been a private tour guide ever since I was trained and certified by the Gibraltar Tourist Board in 2004, providing my clients with a professional and experienced excursion around Gibraltar.
Enjoyable Tours
Our Rock tours are provided in a luxurious eight seater minivan with air-conditioning and in superb condition. As for languages our vehicles are equipped with a multimedia system offering the tour in French, German, Polish, Dutch, Italian, Portuguese and Czech. This will ensure that the majority of my customers who don't understand the languages that we speak, will benefit from the multimedia system.
We are professional in our job and consider ourselves very pleasant tour guides who enjoys socialising with our clients. We are always very eager to provide our clients with an interesting and enjoyable tour, making sure they're happy and satisfied at the end of the trip. At the same time, we feel a great sense of fulfillment knowing our customers are content with the tour we've provided.
Gibraltar History, Sightseeing & Attractions
Our tours are perfect for visitors who want a detailed overview of the history of Gibraltar and who enjoy sightseeing and visiting various attractions, such as meeting our "Barbary Macaques", considered by many to be the top tourist attraction in Gibraltar.
Apart from enjoying our job, what we find most rewarding in our profession is the amount of different people we have met from all over the world throughout the years.
Our tours (also known as shore excursions for cruise ship visitors) are mainly done by travellers who arrive on a daily visit to Gibraltar. Many come on cruise liners whilst others come on a day trip from Spain.
