Gibraltar Cable Car Closed for Redevelopment

Gibraltar Cable Car Closed

CLOSED FOR 2 YEARS REDEVELOPMENT

The Gibraltar Cable Car has closed for a major redevelopment expected to last around 2 years. MH Bland, the company behind the original installation, will lead the rebuild in honour of John G. Gaggero’s vision from 60 years ago.

When it reopens, the new cable car system will be more accessible, more sustainable, and designed for future generations, with modernised stations, improved facilities, and greatly increased passenger capacity. This transformation aims to preserve the spirit of the original attraction while preparing it for the decades ahead.

How Can I Visit the Top of The Rock?

You can still visit the Top of the Rock via booking a private tour with a company like ourselves, or take a public taxi tour by joining a group on Main Street or at the border. You can also walk up via the Upper Rock Nature Reserve by purchasing a ticket at naturereserve.gi.

Booking a tour with a company like ours ensures you can avoid the uphill walking and long distances between attractions, enjoy a professional guide while visiting the sights, stay cool in our luxury Mercedes passenger vehicles with air conditioning, and benefit from the insights of a local Gibraltarian guide who can share the story of this unique place we call home.
